General Usage Rules of the Capitol Square Complex

Exterior Space Guidelines

General guidelines for the exterior spaces include: Because the Underground Parking Garage is located directly under the West Plaza, there is a two ton (4,000 pounds) weight limit for each of the plazas. This weight limit is only applicable when automobiles or large pieces of machinery need to be brought on the plazas for an event.

• Inflatables are not permitted.

• Tent stakes cannot be driven into the lawn due to the shallow irrigation system.

• Non-paraffin based luminary and votive candles are the only types of candles permissible on the Capitol Square Grounds.

• There is no on-site parking in the loading dock during normal business hours or on the Plaza. Materials may not be unloaded for an event on the Plaza; they must be unloaded at the sidewalk and carried onto the Plaza. After unloading, vehicles must be immediately parked in a legal parking space.

• Signs, banners, balloons, ribbons or any other materials may not be tied to trees, historic monuments or any other structure on Capitol Square. Poles with bases can be rented from CSRAB from which signs or banners can be hung.

• Blocking egress or ingress into the parking garage on sidewalks leading onto Capitol Square is not permitted.

• Any sound and staging equipment to be used on the Capitol Square plazas (excluding equipment rented from CSRAB) must be approved by CSRAB prior to its use.

• Flags raised on Capitol Square in accordance with CSRAB rule 128-4-09 will be limited to the length of the program, ceremony or event with a maximum of four hours.

All events held on Capitol Square are subject to the Capitol Square Special Event Policies and Procedures. All Capitol Square Special Event Clients are required to adhere to each rule outlined in the document below.
