The Ohio Statehouse Recycles - Employees and visitors of the Ohio Statehouse working toward a better tomorrow

Employees and visitors of the Ohio Statehouse generate an enormous amount of waste – each individual contributing nearly
six pounds a day. Recycling reduces disposal costs and saves energy and natural resources.
The Ohio Statehouse is proud to recycle. Recycling receptacles for paper, glass, aluminum and plastic are located throughout
the Capitol Square complex.
We hope that everyone will "pitch in" to continue to help make the People's House environmentally friendly!

WHY RECYCLING IS IMPORTANT AT THE OHIO STATEHOUSE?
For every ton of paper that the Statehouse recycles, we save:
- 17 trees
- 380 gallons of oil
- Three cubic yards of landfill space
- 4,000 Kilowatts of energy
- 7,000 gallons of water
Recycling paper creates five times as many jobs as making paper from virgin pulp. Every four tons of
paper recycled at the Ohio Statehouse creates enough energy to power an average size home in Ohio for
an entire year.
In the first six months of 2007, the Ohio Statehouse recycled 46,000 pounds of paper saving:
- 391 trees
- 8,740 gallons of oil
- 69 cubic yards of landfill space
- 92,000 Kilowatts of energy
- 161,000 gallons of water
