Welcome to the Ohio Statehouse

Ohio County Flags

The state of Ohio is comprised of 88 counties as diverse as the state itself. The Ohio counties are named after a variety of people and things. Some are named after Ohio Governors and politicians, and many have Native American names. In addition, each of Ohio's 88 counties fly a county flag. All 88 county flags are flown at the Ohio Statehouse on special occasions throughout the year.

Crawford

In 1988, after the county received various requests to fly a flag, the County Commissioners decided to solicit ideas from each school building in the county. The winning design was by Crestline High School students Tim Biglin, Jenny Metzger, Shellie Rall, Alex Riggleman and advisor James Klopfenstein. The outline of Crawford County appears inside a map of Ohio in the center of this white flag. These are surrounded by 16 blue stars in honor of the county's townships. Wheat is an important crop in the county, and the Buckeye leaves remind us of the official state tree. This county was named for Col. William Crawford who was burned at the stake by Native Americans in 1782.
