Keep America Beautiful established National Planting Day in 2012. Keep Ohio Beautiful, along with its members and affiliates, the ScottsMiracle-Gro Company and the Davey Resource Group organized the Ohio celebration. With the cooperation of Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board, an Eastern Red Bud tree (Cercis canadences) and other native Ohio prairie forbes were planted in a "moist meadow" on Capitol Square on September 18, 2012. Native Ohio plant species conducive to dry conditions were planted in a perennial bed. Students from Tolles Technical & Career Center along with staff from Davey Resource Group and Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board helped with the planting. Participants included:
Senator Richard Finan, CSRAB
Representative Ted Celeste
Representative Michael Stinziano
William Carleton, CSRAB
Su Lok, ScottsMiracle-Gro Company
