Biography

Betty Montgomery was elected to Ohio Senate in 1988. As a state senator, she had appointments to the following committees:

-Agriculture,

-Aging,

-Economic Development,

-Highways and Transportation,

-Judiciary,

-State and Local Government,

-Ways and Means,

-Education,

-Retirement and Aging, and

-Energy, Natural Resources and Environment.

 

She resigned from the legislature in January of 1995 to become Ohio's first woman Attorney General. Montgomery was re-elected to the post in 1998, where she served another 4-year term. In 2003, she became the first female Auditor of State.

 

Prior to Montgomery's election to the Ohio Senate, she served as a Wood County prosecuting attorney from 1981-1988. Her civic activities included the Wood County Child Abuse and Neglect Advisory Board (chair 1986-87), Medici Circle (former president), the Sexual Abuse Prevention Project, Perrysburg Against Substance Abuse, the Wood County Bar Association, the Waterville Historical Society, the Farm Bureau Township Association, the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce, and the Black Swamp Humanitarian Awards Commission.

 

Montgomery has been honored many times for her civic and political achievements, including the Robert E. Hughes Memorial Award, the Black Swamp Humanitarian Award, the Ohio Hospice Senator of the Year, the Medical College of Ohio Distinguished Citizen Award, Government Leaders Against Drunk Driving, WSOS Community Action Committee Certificate of Appreciation, the Wood County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Distinguished Service Award, the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association Resolution of Honor, and the Wood County School Administrators Outstanding Service Award.
