Biography

Jane Campbell served six terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. As a state representative, she was selected by her caucus to serve as assistant minority leader and held appointments on the following committees:

-Finance and Appropriations,

-Agriculture and Development Subcommittee,

-Ways and Means Committee, and

-Financial Institutions Committee.

 

In 1996, Campbell was elected as a Cuyahoga County Commissioner, and in 2002 she was sworn in as Cleveland's first female mayor, where she served one term.

 

Jane Campbell had been an active civic leader, involved as founding director of WomenSpace of Cleveland and member of Ward 4 Democratic Club, Cuyahoga County Democratic party Executive Committee, National Council of State Legislators (1995 president); Woman's Network (past president); Leadership America Class of 1988, Leadership Cleveland Class of 1984, Ohio Democratic party Executive Committee (vice chair), and Cuyahoga County Legislative Delegation (co-chair).

 

Campbell has also been honored with several awards from organization that include: the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences (1994), Bedford Heights Chamber of Commerce, Cleveland Psychological Association, University of Michigan Club of Cleveland, Child Support Directors Association, Y.W.C.A. (Career Women of Achievement, 1993), Cleveland State University (Lifetime Alumni Leadership), Ohio Rehabilitation Association Government Affairs, and Heights Christian Church.
