Before her service in the Ohio House of Representatives, Joan Douglass was a Mansfield City Council member from 1959-1967. She was also a realtor in Mansfield and continued her business while serving in the Ohio General Assembly. During her legislative tenure, Douglass served on the Education House Committee.
Her other civic activities included participation in the Mansfield Board of Realtors, the National Institute of Realtors, the Republican Executive Committee, the Mansfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the Republican State Central Committee, the Mary Washington Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and McVey Post No. 16 of the American Legion Auxiliary.
