The Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center continues its War of 1812 lecture series. This program focuses on the trials and travails faced by 27-year-old Oliver Hazard Perry, who had just gained command of the U.S. Navy’s Erie base in March 1813. His orders were to complete a fleet under construction for the defense of the Great Lakes. Most of the supplies needed for construction had to be brought great distances into a near wilderness. Join Roberta Jones, former Park Ranger from the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Monument, as she details the physical struggles and administrative infighting endured by Perry to achieve his herculean tasks.
This program leads up September 10, 2013 Statehouse event, which commemorates the important Battle of Lake Erie.
