Description

Remember the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie (2013), a critical battle in the little-known War of 1812. Impress your friends with your knowledge! As the sun rose in the morning of September 10, 1813 an American lookout spotted six British ships to the northwest of Put-in-Bay in Lake Erie. Oliver Hazard Perry, the Master Commandant, issued orders and prepared to sail to engage the enemy. Learn about Ohio’s role in the War of 1812 from Roberta Jones, a former National Park Service Ranger from Perry’s Victory and International Peace Monument. Visitors will meet in the Statehouse Rotunda where the famous painting “Perry’s Victory” will serve as a backdrop for the talks.
