STATEHOUSE CALENDAR

The Young People’s Chorus of Erie, Pennsylvania will perform a half hour concert on the West Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse Wednesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. (weather permitting). The event is free and open to the public.

In 2009, local business leader Howard Lincoln and Penn State Behrend’s former director of choral activities collaborated on an idea. They recognized a great need for young people in our community to have an opportunity to further their personal and creative talents and develop their cross-cultural understanding and appreciation--and knew that music was the way.

The mission of YPC Erie today remains true to its origin: give every child in our community the opportunity to further their personal and artistic growth and to foster cross-cultural understanding. With an emphasis on diversity, YPC Erie brings together young singers from all across Erie County. Since 2009, more than 1,000 students from over 37 different public, private and parochial schools have benefitted from the YPC Erie program — currently, more than 100 choristers are participating in YPC Erie’s choirs.
