A major oil painting of Ohioans in Space will be unveiled and installed in the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda facing the picture of the Wright Brothers.  

The project will be funded by private donations.  For more information, see the Captiol Square Foundation.

Related events will be hosted on January 24, 2024 at the Ohio Statehouse. 

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Student program in the Atrium is sponsored by COSI and Ohio science museums.  (This event is full.)   

2:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. Panel discussion on Space, Science, Aviation and Aerospace, in the Finance Hearing Room 126.  (Free)

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Panel discussion on Statehouse Art will review the role of art in civic life, in the Finance Hearing Room 126. (Free)

4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.  The official print of the new painting, “Ohioans in Space,” will be for sale in the Statehouse Museum Shop along with merchandise related to space.  Artist Bill Hinsch will be at the Shop to sign the collectible prints.  

5:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.  Receptions (Ticketed Event) 

7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  Gala Celebration Dinner and Remarks  (Ticketed Event)    

8:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.  Unveiling of the new painting, "Ohioans in Space," in the Rotunda of the Ohio Statehouse.  

Please mark this momentous occasion by joining the Captiol Square Foundation in a gala celebration at the Ohio Statehouse on January 24, featuring a program of civic and aviation dignitaries gathered to commemorate this important event. All proceeds from the gala will directly support the costs of the commission, installation, and maintenance of Ohioans in Space.
